The “Introduction to Calgary’s Francophone Cultural Heritage” workshop is led by Sylvie Charrette, a qualified Francophone elder and retired educator.

Whether you’re a passionate Francophone, a history buff or simply curious to better understand the region’s Francophone influence, the “Introduction to Calgary’s Francophone Cultural Heritage” workshop is a virtual cultural stroll that lets you learn about the arrival of Calgary’s first permanent Francophone mission, which gave birth to the village of Rouleauville, the cradle of the city’s Francophone history.

Sylvie Charrette

Sylvie Charrette

Sylvie Charrette is a native of Trois-Rivières, Quebec, and has lived in Calgary since 1987.

She has made a career of teaching, mainly in the French immersion program and also in the bilingual English-Spanish program.
She studied at Glendon College in Toronto, the University of Ottawa and the University of Calgary for a Master’s degree. She has studied Spanish in Calgary, Guadalajara, Mexico and Spain.
